Caveat - winner 1983 Belmont Stakes
Race Comments: CAVEAT, outrun into the backstretch, moved to the inside while beginning to advance racing into the far turn, drove through the inside leaders bouncing off AU POINT and into the rail leaving the far turn, wrested command inside the final three sixteenths and drew away under left-handed urging. SLEW O' GOLD, sent up along the inside early, eased out nearing the backstretch while moving closest to AU POINT, reached the front nearing the stretch but was no match for the winner during the drive. BARBERSTOWN, never far back, came out between horses while rallying approaching the stretch, but wasn't good enough. MEGATURN, outrun to the stretch, came out for the drive and finished with good energy. HIGH HONORS, never far back while racing well out in the track, rallied while continuing wide racing into the far turn, remained a factor into the stretch and weakened. DEPUTED TESTAMONY raced forwardly until near the far turn and drifted out while weakening. CANADIAN FACTOR raced wide. PRINCILIAN was always outrun. CURRENT HOPE saved ground but to no avail. AU POINT sprinted to the front from the outside racing to the first turn, remained well out from the rail while making the pace, came over slightly bumping with CAVEAT leaving the far turn and had nothing left. LAW TALK raced wide. BALBOA NATIVE was never close. WHITE BIRCH was always outrun. DIXIELAND BAND was finished nearing the far turn. EL CUBANASO, never close, broke down after entering the stretch. There was a stewards inquiry involving the run leaving the far turn before the result was made official.
