Limehouse to be Named Aiken Trained Horse of the Year

Aiken, SC – January 4, 2006 – Limehouse, Dogwood Stable’s millionaire, is set to receive the “Aiken Trained Horse of the Year” Award on Sunday, March 19 at 12:30 pm at the Aiken Thoroughbred Racing Hall of Fame and Museum. A reception will follow and memorabilia from Limehouse’s racing career will be on display. The public is invited to attend.

Limehouse recently retired with $1,100,433 in career earnings and a record of seven wins, two seconds, and three thirds from 21 starts. In only his second start on the turf, Limehouse faced the best turf milers from Europe and the United States in the Breeders’ Cup Mile, finishing sixth but only beaten by two and a quarter lengths.

Limehouse won stakes in each of the three years he raced, at distances from four and a half furlongs to a mile and an eighth. He competed at ten different race tracks, with his seven wins have come at five different tracks. He won his first race then proceeded to run in nothing but stakes, 17 of them graded. Perhaps his best race was winning this year’s Brooklyn Handicap (Grade 2). In 2004, Limehouse finished forth in the Kentucky Derby.

Sired by Grand Slam, Limehouse is out of the Dixieland Band mare Dixieland Blues, Limehouse was foaled in 2001. He was bred in Florida by Cheryl Curtin and trained in Aiken by Ron Stevens and after leaving Aiken by Todd Pletcher. Limehouse now resides at Vinery, Ltd. In Lexington, Kentucky who purchased the multiple graded stakes winner for stud duty beginning in 2006.
