Creme Fraiche - winner 1985 Belmont Stakes
Race Comments: CREME FRAICHE, reserved for six furlongs, advanced nearing the second turn, angled to the outside approaching the stretch while continuing his run, caught STEPHAN’S ODYSSEY with a furlong to go and outfinished that opponent under pressure. STEPHAN’S ODYSSEY, devoid of early foot, improved his position between horses soon after entering the second turn, moved boldly into contention along the inside approaching the stretch, brushed the rail entering the stretch, gained a narrow advantage in upper stretch, responded readily when challenged by CREME FRAICHE but wasn’t quite good enough. CHIEF’S CROWN raced along the inside in the run to the first turn, was angled to the outside entering the first turn, raced prominently outside, approaching the stretch to gain a narrow advantage but weakened nearing the furlong grounds. FAST ACCOUNT, never too far back and between horses, improved his position from between horses nearing the stretch but lacked a further response. IMPORTANT BUSINESS failed to threaten while racing wide. CUTLESS REALITY prompted the early pace, took over nearing the second turn, held on well to the stretch and tired. PURPLE MOUNTAIN, kept off the rail while making the early pace, was finished before a mile. SOUTHERN SULTAN never threatened. EL BASCO, unhurried early, lacked a response and tired. ETERNAL PRINCE pressed the pace from the outside for a mile and gave way. TANK’S PROSPECT, racing slightly off the rail early, fell back midway through the second turn, lost his best action in upper stretch, was pulled up at the furlong marker and went lame.
