Danzig Connection - winner 1986 Belmont Stakes
Race Comments: DANZIG CONNECTION raced well out in the track while prompting the pace, headed MOGAMBO just before going a mile, held a narrow advantage into the stretch and proved clearly best under a strong hand ride. JOHN’S TREASURE moved up while racing wide approaching the end of the backstretch, loomed a threat nearing the stretch and continued on with good courage to gain the place. FERDINAND moved within easy striking distance nearing the backstretch, was moving up inside the leaders when steadied slightly at the far turn, came out between horses to make a bid approaching the stretch, remained prominent to the final furlong and weakened slightly. PERSONAL FLAG, outrun early, made a run along the inside leaving the far turn but failed to sustain his rally. FOBBY FOBES moved through between horses, leaving the far turn but lacked a further response. MOGAMBO raced well out from the rail while making the pace, held on well until near the stretch and gave way. RAMPAGE was never close. BORDEAUX BOB was always outrun. PARADE MARSHAL, caught in close quarters after the start, tired badly while racing wide. IMPERIOUS SPIRIT tired badly. DANZIG CONNECTION and FOBBY FORBES raced with mud caulks.
